If you aren’t familiar with the world of coffee roasting, the term co-roasting may be new to you. And tbh, even if you’re familiar with coffee roasting, it could be a new term to you too.
Co-roasting is a fairly new idea gaining traction among coffee people and it’s how we first started.
So what is it?
Are you familiar with co-working spaces? Where businesses share office space and facilities to keep the cost of operations down (eg. rent, utilities, printers, sparkling water on tap)?
Co-roasting is based on the same idea, but rather than just sharing an office with printers and sparkling water (which we do have btw), we also share roasting equipment, knowledge and support.
Why would I choose co-roasting?
Well, it depends on your needs.
The short answer is: a co-roasting space gives independent coffee roasters and growing coffee brands time to learn, practice and build their businesses before spending a small fortune on a roasting facility of their own. If you’ve researched roasting equipment and looked into setting up a space, you probably already know it’s a significant investment of time, money and resources.
We’ve found co-roasting a great option for those starting a coffee company, wanting to roast their own small batches or roasting for a cafe. You may find it’s a better option for you, too (and the planet!)
Sourcing, packing, storing, quality control and support
Co-roasting isn’t just about access to coffee roasting machines. At ECRE (that’s us) you get access to green beans, storage, packaging facilities, cupping equipment and hands on support from us, if you need it.
And that’s co-roasting.
